Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership has expired. With the departure of the MP, now he will have to vacate the government bungalow as well. The Lok Sabha secretariat has sent a notice to Rahul to vacate the bungalow by April 24.
Rahul currently lives in a government bungalow at 12, Tughlaq Lane in Lutyens’ Delhi. This bungalow was allotted to him in 2005 when he became the MP for the first time from Amethi in 2004.
On February 26 this year, Rahul Gandhi told in the 85th session of the Congress that I do not have a house. In such a situation, the big question is where will Rahul stay after vacating the government bungalow.
In the affidavit submitted by Rahul Gandhi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it was stated that he inherited 2.346 acres of agricultural land in Sultanpur, Mehrauli, Delhi.
Its cost is Rs 1.32 crore. Priyanka Gandhi is a half-shareholder in this. According to the circle rate, its cost per acre is Rs 53 lakh. A farmhouse has been built in this. Its price is 16 lakh rupees.
Rahul Gandhi also has 2 commercial spaces i.e. shops in Signature Tower-2 of Silokheda in Gurugram. Its market value is currently Rs 8 crore 75 lacks. He has given it on rent.
How many houses does Rahul’s mother Sonia Gandhi have?
Sonia Gandhi has been living in Delhi’s 10 Janpath government bungalow for almost 3 decades. This bungalow was given to her husband and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1990. After the death of Rajiv Gandhi, this bungalow was allotted to Sonia.
According to the affidavit given by Sonia Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Sonia Gandhi has .625 acres of agricultural land in Delhi’s Deramandi. Its cost is more than 5.88 crore rupees.
On the other hand, there are 2.6566 acres of agricultural land in Sultanpur village located in Mehrauli, Delhi. Its cost is more than 1.40 crore rupees. Sonia also has inherited property worth 23.2 lakhs in Italy.
On March 27, Rahul was sent a notice to vacate the bungalow by the Housing Committee of the Lok Sabha. In response to this, Rahul wrote in a reply sent on Tuesday, March 28, ‘I was elected Lok Sabha MP 4 times. This is the mandate of the people. I am thankful to those people. I have many good memories attached to this house. I will follow the orders given in the notice.
If the Housing Committee of the Lok Sabha wants, it can allow any MP to stay in a government bungalow even in the event of losing his seat or losing his ministerial post. For this, the person living in the government bungalow has to pay rent as per the market rate. Rahul Gandhi also has the right to ask for extra time. Now it has to be seen whether he demands it or vacates the bungalow.
As it is understood from Rahul’s answer that he has now made up his mind to leave the government bungalow.
So they have 3 major options….
- Rahul Gandhi now lives in his mother Sonia Gandhi’s bungalow at 10 Janpath.
- Rahul Gandhi should stay in a rented house somewhere in Delhi itself.
- Rahul can also stay at his farmhouse in Mehrauli.
- Indira Gandhi also had to leave her official residence 46 years ago.
It is about the year 1977. Indira Gandhi loses the election from UP’s Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat. The Janata Party government is formed under the leadership of Morarji Desai. In the meantime, the Janata government asks Indira Gandhi to vacate the bungalow located at 1 Safdarjung Road, Delhi.
At that time Indira Gandhi did not have a house of her own. Indira Gandhi had given the property of Anand Bhawan of Allahabad (now Prayagraj) to the party in 1970 itself. Her husband Feroze Gandhi had a farmhouse in Mehrauli, Delhi, which was being built at that time.
After this, Indira Gandhi goes to live at the 12 Willingdon Crescent residence of her close friend Mohammad Yunus in Delhi.
