Somnath Temple is located in Sagarkant, Saurashtra in Gujarat. It was constructed around 649 AD. 

It is believed that this is the first Jyotirlinga where Lord Shiva himself appeared. This temple was built and destroyed many times by Mughals and foreigners.

The present structure was rebuilt  temple on the same location  by the deputy prime minister valabhaipatel. It was completed in 1951..

According to rigveda, the history of somnath temple is the moon god who called somraj was first built this temple which made up of gold in Satyug. It was built by Krishna which made up of wood, ravan who was built this temple with silver and bhimdev with stone.It is devoted to lord shiva.
