New Delhi: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s heartfelt address regarding Operation Sindoor, the Congress party on Monday raised questions about US President Donald Trump’s assertions, inquiring whether the operation against Pakistan was halted due to trade commitments. The party also speculated if PM Modi had consented to American involvement in the Kashmir matter.
Trump had stated that his administration averted a ‘nuclear conflict’ between the two nations by suggesting that the US would engage in significant trade if they ceased hostilities, a comment made just moments before PM Modi’s speech. In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh remarked, ‘The prime minister, his supporters, and his defenders should provide answers.’
He further noted, ‘The prime minister’s long-awaited address was overshadowed by President Trump’s earlier statements. The prime minister did not address these issues. Has India accepted US mediation? Has India agreed to a ‘neutral site’ for discussions with Pakistan? Will India acquiesce to US demands regarding the opening of Indian markets in sectors such as automobiles and agriculture?’
Ramesh urged PM Modi to convene a meeting with leaders from all political parties. ‘The upcoming months will require meticulous diplomacy and a united determination. Simple remarks and superficial dialogue are inadequate,’ he emphasized. ‘We wholeheartedly commend and honor our armed forces.
They have made the nation proud. We stand firmly with them at all times. However, the prime minister still has many questions to address,’ Ramesh concluded.
Pawan Khera, the head of the Congress media department, described the statement from the US president as “alarming.”
“We require clarification from the Indian government regarding whether this operation was halted due to trade considerations,” Khera stated.
“We seek to understand the terms of the mediation. Why was there no response to Donald Trump’s comments on Kashmir? There are numerous questions troubling the nation, and a unified response is essential. There were two occasions for all-party meetings, yet regrettably, the prime minister was absent,” the Congress leader remarked.
The Congress party has once again called for a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that terrorism and dialogue cannot coexist, nor can terror and trade, and that bloodshed and water cannot flow together. He emphasized a change in India’s stance towards Pakistan, stating that New Delhi will not accept nuclear intimidation.
