Republic Day full dress rehearsals: Delhi Traffic Police issues advisory for today | Avoid these routes

New Delhi: Republic Day Celebrations: The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a notice for commuters in the city and the National Capital Region (NCR) regarding the full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade scheduled for Thursday, January 23.

“In light of the Parade Full Dress Rehearsal on #RepublicDay 23 January 2025, certain traffic restrictions will be implemented in Delhi. Commuters are advised to avoid the specified routes and to plan their travel accordingly,” stated the Traffic Police in a post on X. These restrictions will be enforced from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

Delhi Traffic Advisory

According to the advisory, the route for the Republic Day parade will be as follows: Vijay Chowk > Kartavyapath > C-Hexagon > R/A Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose > Tilak Marg > Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg > Netaji Subhash Marg > Red Fort.

Traffic Restrictions

Traffic will be prohibited from Vijay Chowk to India Gate starting January 22 at 6 PM until the conclusion of the parade. Additionally, cross traffic will be restricted from 11 PM on January 22 at Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road until the parade has ended. C-Hexagon will be closed from 9:15 AM on January 23 until the parade has passed Tilak Marg. Furthermore, no traffic will be permitted on Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, and Subhash Marg in both directions from 10:30 AM on January 23.

Alternative Routes North-South Corridor:

Travel from Ring Road at Ashram Chowk to Sarai Kale Khan, then to IP Flyover, proceeding to Rajghat and back to Ring Road. From Madarsa, proceed to Lodhi Road ‘T’ point, then to Aurobindo Marg, AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road, Dhaula Kuan, Vande Mataram Marg, Shankar Road, and finally to Park Street or Mandir Marg.

East-West Corridor:

Travel from Ring Road to Bhairon Road, then to Mathura Road, Lodhi Road, Aurobindo Road, AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road, Dhaula Kuan, Vande Mataram Marg, Shankar Road, and Park Street or Mandir Marg.

Alternatively, proceed from Ring Road to Boulevard Road, Barf Khana Chowk, Rani Jhansi Flyover, Faiz Road, Vande Mataram Marg, and R/A Shankar Road.
Another option is to travel from Ring Road to ISBT, then to Chandgi Ram Akhara, IP College, Mall Road, Azadpur, and Punjabi Bagh.

It is important to note that Delhi metro rail services will remain operational at all stations during the full dress rehearsal on Thursday, January 23.

Furthermore, the traffic advisory indicated that no heavy goods vehicles, medium goods vehicles, or light goods vehicles will be permitted to enter the borders of Delhi from 9 PM on January 22 until the conclusion of the full dress rehearsals for the Republic Day parade on January 23. However, vehicles providing essential services are exempt from these restrictions.

The Delhi Traffic Police has also issued advisories concerning Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), and Gurugram within the same document. Previously, the traffic police had released an advisory regarding the full dress rehearsal on January 22 and the Republic Day celebration at Chhatrasal Stadium, Model Town, scheduled for January 25.

“In light of the Full Dress #RepublicDay Parade Rehearsal on January 22, 2025, and the Republic Day Celebration on January 25, 2025, at Chhatrasal Stadium, Model Town, Delhi, special traffic arrangements will be implemented on various routes. We urge everyone to adhere to the advisory,” stated the traffic police in their communication on X. These restrictions will be enforced from 6 AM to 1 PM.

The alternate routes recommended by the Delhi Traffic Police include:

  • Inner Ring Road – from IP College to Azadpur Chowk
  • GTK Road – from Shakti Nagar to Azadpur Chowk
  • Chhatrasal Stadium Road, Gujrawala Town
  • Burari Chowk to Vijay Nagar T-Point via Camp Chowk

Authorities have advised commuters and motorists to remain informed about the traffic restrictions in the national capital and to plan their journeys accordingly.

It is noteworthy that during the Republic Day celebration on January 25 at Chhatrasal Stadium, Chief Minister Atishi will host the National Flag. The traffic police have indicated that approximately 250 buses and 1,000 light vehicles are anticipated to attend this event, which may lead to congestion in the vicinity of the stadium.

It is important to note that security measures and preparations in the national capital are being conducted vigorously in anticipation of the Republic Day celebrations scheduled for January 26.

Consequently, the Delhi Police has enacted a prohibition on the operation of all sub-conventional aerial platforms over the city. This restriction will remain effective until February 1.

The use of various platforms, including paragliders, para-motors, hang gliders, UAVs, unmanned aircraft systems (UASs), micro-light aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, and quadcopters, has been expressly forbidden, according to the order. Any individual found in breach of this directive will face penalties under section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
