Election Result 2024 LIVE: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is on track to achieve victory in Maharashtra against the INDIA coalition, marking the saffron party’s most successful electoral performance in the state to date. The Mahayuti alliance has won 220 seats thus far and is leading in 13 others, according to the latest updates from the counting process following the elections held on November 20. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has faced a significant defeat, with its candidates winning only 46 seats and leading in an additional 5.

In Jharkhand, the alliance led by Hemant Soren’s JMM is set to retain control, having won 56 seats in the 81-member state assembly. The BJP and its allies have secured 23 seats and are leading in one. The NDA, which is collaborating in both states, appears ready to hold onto Maharashtra, having established a substantial lead in the western state. Maharashtra elections: The contest between Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)

In Maharashtra, the main rivalry was between the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which includes Shiv Sena and NCP (Ajit Pawar), and the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SCP). Most exit polls and political analysts forecasted a decisive majority for the Mahayuti alliance. However, they also suggested that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would perform strongly in the results, although it is unlikely to surpass the majority threshold.

According to Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde, the leaders of the Mahayuti coalition will convene to determine the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, contingent upon their securing a majority in the upcoming election results. The 2024 Maharashtra assembly election results are poised to significantly influence the political dynamics of the state, marking the first assembly election following the divisions within major parties, namely Shiv Sena and NCP. The Maharashtra assembly elections have also been overshadowed by allegations of cash-for-votes involving BJP leader Vinod Tawde, which Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has referred to as ‘note jihad.’

In Jharkhand, the primary contest is between the ruling JMM-led alliance, which is relying on its past performance and commitments, and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, which seeks to garner public support based on its promises and the achievements of the central government. The BJP-led alliance in Jharkhand comprises the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United), and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). Conversely, the JMM-led alliance includes the Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).

Exit polls have produced varied predictions, suggesting the possibility of a hung assembly in Jharkhand, with many indicating that the BJP-led NDA holds a slight advantage over the JMM coalition. The elections in Jharkhand were conducted in two phases on November 13 and November 20, covering 81 assembly seats. The voter turnout for the two phases was recorded at 67.74%, with the second phase achieving a turnout of 68.95%.

Vote counting for the by-elections across 46 assembly seats in 13 states, as well as in the Lok Sabha constituencies of Nanded in Maharashtra and Wayanad in Kerala, commenced at 8 am. This electoral exercise is crucial for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh, which is striving to restore its reputation following a lackluster performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
