PM Modi makes historic visit to RSS headquarters in Nagpur, to go to Chhattisgarh later | Details

Nagpur: RSS supporters have embraced the visit and dismissed claims of a divide between the organization’s leadership and the Prime Minister.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Dr. Hedgewar Smruti Mandir in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where he honored the memorials of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and its second leader, MS Golwalkar.

This visit marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time a sitting Prime Minister has visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.

During PM Modi’s visit to the Smruti Mandir located in Reshimbagh, the administrative center of the organization, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat was in attendance. The organization is preparing to commemorate its centenary.

The timing of PM Modi’s visit aligns with the Sangh’s Pratipada program, which celebrates Gudi Padwa, the commencement of the Hindu New Year. Additionally, he paid homage to BR Ambedkar at Deekshabhoomi, the site where the architect of India’s Constitution embraced Buddhism along with thousands of his followers in 1956.

  • He has laid the foundation stone for the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre in Nagpur and is scheduled to address a public gathering.
  • At approximately 12:30 PM, PM Modi will inaugurate the Loitering Munition Testing Range and the Runway facility for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) at Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited.
  • Subsequently, he will lay the foundation for the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre, which is an extension of the Madhav Netralaya Eye Institute & Research Centre, a leading super-specialty facility for ophthalmic care located in Nagpur.
  • PM Modi will also tour the ammunition facility at Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited to inaugurate a newly constructed airstrip measuring 1250 meters in length and 25 meters in width for UAVs, along with a live munition and warhead testing facility designed for evaluating loitering munitions and other guided munitions.
  • Ideologues from the RSS have expressed their support for the visit, dismissing claims of a rift between the Sangh leadership and the Prime Minister. Member Seshadri Chari highlighted that this marks PM Modi’s first visit to Smruti Mandir since assuming the role of Prime Minister.
  • In Chhattisgarh, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone, commence work, and dedicate several development projects in the sectors of power, oil and gas, railways, roads, education, and housing, amounting to over ₹33,700 crore in Bilaspur, according to the PMO.
