‘PM Modi has our full support’: US’ fresh statement on terrorism after Pahalgam attack

New Delhi: Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, the United States has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed solidarity with India’s efforts to combat terrorism. This statement was made by US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce during a press briefing on Friday, as Washington continued its high-level diplomatic engagement with both India and Pakistan.

Bruce confirmed that the Trump administration is in ongoing communication with the governments of both nations, particularly in light of the heightened tensions following the attack. ‘We are closely monitoring the situation. Yesterday, the Secretary spoke with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. As President Donald Trump conveyed to Prime Minister Modi last week, the United States stands firmly with India against terrorism, and Prime Minister Modi has our complete support,’ Bruce stated on Thursday.

She also referenced a summary of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s discussions on Thursday with key leaders in New Delhi and Islamabad, highlighting the significance of regional stability and the US’s ongoing diplomatic role in South Asia. The Pahalgam attack has elicited strong responses from the international community, with the United States emerging as one of India’s most prominent supporters amid rising concerns over cross-border terrorism.

The US has urged both India and Pakistan to pursue a peaceful resolution, with the Secretary encouraging both nations to strive for a responsible solution that ensures long-term peace and regional stability in South Asia. ‘We remain in contact with the governments of both countries at various levels,’ she added.

In response to inquiries about whether the calls for de-escalation were being acknowledged, Bruce stated, “We are seeking a responsible resolution from both parties. Beyond that, I cannot provide any further details.” This remark comes in the context of an increase in ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, following the devastating attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, where terrorists supported by Pakistan killed 26 individuals, primarily tourists, and injured numerous others.

In retaliation for Pakistan’s support of cross-border terrorism, India has enacted several measures, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, the closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and a decision to reduce the number of personnel at High Commissions. Additionally, the government has granted the armed forces complete operational freedom to decide on the appropriate response to the Pahalgam terror attack, with the Indian Army already having effectively responded to unprovoked small arms fire from the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control.
