Pahalgam terror attack: Massive operation launched

During his state visit to Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi denounced the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, asserting that those responsible will face justice and reaffirming India’s steadfast commitment to combating terrorism. He expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and wished for the swift recovery of the injured, emphasizing that all necessary support is being extended to those affected.

Modi stated, ‘I unequivocally condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The perpetrators of this despicable act will not escape accountability, and their malicious intentions will ultimately fail. Our determination to eradicate terrorism remains resolute and will only grow stronger.’

In the attack, at least 12 tourists sustained injuries when assailants descended from a mountain in the Baisaran valley and opened fire. Earlier, PM Modi had a conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to travel to Jammu and Kashmir to implement appropriate measures.

Amit Shah pledged to take decisive action against those responsible for the Pahalgam attack, announcing his imminent departure for Srinagar to participate in a security review meeting. He expressed his sorrow over the attack on tourists, stating, ‘My thoughts are with the families of the victims. Those responsible for this heinous act will face severe repercussions.’

Shah also mentioned that he briefed PM Modi about the situation and conducted a video conference with relevant officials, confirming his plans to hold an urgent security review meeting with all agencies in Srinagar. In response to the attack, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have initiated a significant operation, deploying a helicopter for the evacuation of the injured, while many were transported from remote meadows using ponies. A comprehensive anti-terror operation is underway to locate the attackers.

In the meantime, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, described the attack as a heinous act. He expressed his profound shock, stating, ‘This assault on our guests is a heinous act. The individuals responsible for this attack are barbaric, inhumane, and deserving of disdain. No amount of condemnation can suffice. I extend my condolences to the families of the victims.’
