Pawan Kalyan does a Modi, switches to English on Pahalgam

New Delhi: During an event on Friday, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan made an unusual transition to English while discussing the Pahalgam attack, seemingly inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. By switching from Telugu to English, Kalyan aimed to ensure his message resonated with audiences in Andhra and beyond.

Last week, PM Modi also transitioned to English from Hindi at his first public rally following the tragic Pahalgam attack in Bihar, where he issued a strong warning to terrorists and their associates. Kalyan, who has previously referred to PM Modi as a role model, initially addressed the audience in Telugu, focusing on the vision of transforming Amaravati into a world-class capital.

The event, which marked the relaunch of Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious capital city project, was graced by the presence of PM Modi and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. Towards the conclusion of his speech, Kalyan unexpectedly switched to English to address the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists and a local resident.

He remarked, ‘The Pahalgam terror attack has been one of the darkest days in the entire country. Blood was spilled in Kashmir, creating tremors across the nation. We witnessed the suffering of the victims.’ Kalyan emphasized that PM Modi was ‘bearing the nation’s burden’ and commended him for taking the time to visit Andhra Pradesh to inaugurate projects.

‘PM Modi is guiding the country through challenging times and has promised decisive action against those responsible for terrorism. This is a very sensitive period, yet PM Modi chose to come to Amaravati, demonstrating his profound commitment to Andhra Pradesh,’ Kalyan stated. Although Kalyan typically communicates in Telugu during public speeches, his decision to switch to English was a calculated strategy to convey to the global audience that all states are united in India’s resolve to combat terrorism.

Following Kalyan’s remarks, Chandrababu Naidu echoed the sentiment, stating, “We stand with you, PM Modi. The five crore residents of Andhra Pradesh support you, and the whole nation is behind you.” Subsequently, PM Modi inaugurated and initiated projects totaling Rs 58,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh, which featured the recommencement of construction for the capital city of Amaravati.
