New Delhi: In the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, General Upendra Dwivedi, the chief of the Indian Army, is scheduled to visit Srinagar on Friday to assess the security landscape. Concurrently, the Ministry of External Affairs conducted a briefing for select G20 envoys, including representatives from China and Canada, regarding the incident during a 30-minute meeting on Thursday.
During his visit, General Dwivedi will receive updates from senior commanders of local military units on the counter-terrorism operations currently underway in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control, as reported by ANI citing defense officials. The General Officer Commanding of the 15 Corps and commanders from the Rashtriya Rifles formations are anticipated to participate in this high-level review.
Furthermore, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed ambassadors from various nations, including Germany, Japan, Poland, the United Kingdom, and Russia, about the recent attack during a meeting held on Thursday. Senior diplomats from the United States, the European Union, Italy, Qatar, Japan, China, Russia, Germany, and France were observed arriving at the Ministry of External Affairs in South Block, situated in the center of the national capital. Misri provided a comprehensive update to G20 envoys, including those from China and Canada, in a meeting that reportedly lasted around 30 minutes.
This diplomatic engagement followed India’s announcement of a series of measures in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the loss of 26 civilian lives. In an official statement, the MEA declared, ‘In line with the decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Security following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India has resolved to suspend visa services for Pakistani nationals effective immediately.’
