‘Ghar mein ghus kar baith jana’: Owaisi’s message to Centre amid tension with Pakistan

New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and MP from Hyderabad, urged for decisive action against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals. He remarked, ‘The BJP claims they will take action within our borders. If the central government is indeed planning to act against Pakistan, then they should ensure they are prepared for the consequences.’

Owaisi emphasized that the Indian Parliament has declared that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) belongs to India, and he urged all opposition parties to unite in the fight against terrorism. In a previous statement, he condemned Pakistan’s actions during the attack, likening them to ISIS for their brutal killing of Indian citizens in Kashmir.

He stated, ‘Pakistan boasts of its nuclear capabilities, but they must understand that if they invade another country and murder innocent people, that nation will respond. Regardless of the government in power, targeting our citizens based on their religion is unacceptable. What kind of faith justifies such actions? You have behaved like ISIS.’

The Pahalgam attack, one of the most lethal since the 2019 Pulwama incident, occurred on April 22 when terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in the scenic Baisaran meadow. In the aftermath, India implemented several measures against Pakistan, including halting the Indus Waters Treaty, expelling Pakistani military personnel, and closing the Attari land transit point.

Additionally, all visas for Pakistani nationals were revoked starting April 27, and Indian citizens in Pakistan were advised to return home. In retaliation, Pakistan announced it would close its airspace to Indian airlines and suspend trade with India, even through third-party nations.
