Over 400 Injured In Massive Explosion At Iran’s Most Advanced Port

New Delhi: On Saturday, multiple containers detonated at a significant Iranian port, resulting in a substantial explosion and fire that injured 400 individuals. Video footage captured dense smoke rising from the port vicinity.

State television reported that Esmaeil Malekizadeh, a local port official, stated, ‘The explosion took place in a section of the Shahid Rajaee port dock, and we are in the process of extinguishing the fire.’

Located 1000 kilometers south of Tehran, Shahid Rajaee is Iran’s most sophisticated container port, situated 23 kilometers west of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan province, and north of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil supply is transported.

Mokhtar Salahshour, the Head of the Hormozgan Red Crescent Society, informed state television that ‘four rapid response teams were sent to the site following the explosion.’ Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, the head of the province’s crisis management authority, confirmed to state television that the incident was caused by the explosion of several containers.

‘We are currently in the process of evacuating and transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities,’ he added.
