Nagaland: Naga student body demands suspension of IAS officer amid sexual harassment allegations

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed significant concerns regarding the ongoing appointment of Mr. Reny Wilfred, IAS, who is currently the Joint Secretary of the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN). This concern arises amidst ongoing investigations into several allegations of sexual harassment made by female subordinates.

In a strongly articulated statement, the NSF conveyed its deep disappointment, asserting that the decision to keep Mr. Wilfred in his official role sends a troubling message—one that seems to favor institutional protection over the principles of justice and accountability. The Federation underscored that this approach not only demoralizes public servants, particularly women, but also undermines public confidence in the government’s dedication to fostering a safe and fair work environment.

Moreover, the NSF pointed out that this situation is not an isolated incident but indicative of a broader pattern of alleged misconduct. The Federation contended that allowing Mr. Wilfred to maintain a position of authority compromises the integrity of the public service and fosters an environment that may encourage further abuses of power.

In light of these issues, the NSF has called for the immediate suspension of Mr. Wilfred from any official duties until the investigation is concluded and the findings are publicly disclosed. The Federation also cautioned against any attempts to sway or obstruct the investigation, asserting that such actions would be met with strong opposition from both the organization and the Naga community.
