UPSC Results 2024: With great enthusiasm and determination, 27-year-old Raj Krishna Jha, hailing from Athari panchayat in the Runi Saidpur block of Sitamarhi district, achieved the eighth rank in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday. He expressed a strong belief in his impending success during his fifth attempt at the examination, following disappointing outcomes in his initial two attempts.
His achievement has ignited a sense of pride and celebration within his village and the surrounding district. In a conversation with Hindustan Times from Kolhapur, Jha, who had previously failed to qualify for the preliminary examination in his first two attempts, stated that he approached the examination with a clear goal of securing a high rank. ‘After scoring 739 marks in my fourth attempt in the mains and narrowly missing selection by just two marks, I resolved to aim for a position within the top ten ranks in the examination. However, the element of risk was always present,’ remarked Jha, who is currently employed as an assistant manager at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) in Kolhapur.
He added, ‘I felt somewhat confident about my success as I was performing well in mock tests as well.’ Raj Krishna completed his early education at a school in Nepal, near the Bhitamore border, and successfully passed his Class 12 examinations under the Bihar School Examination Board. He then pursued a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) in Allahabad. Following his graduation, he joined Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in 2018 and is presently serving as an assistant manager in HPCL’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) division in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

Raj Krishna Jha credited his father, Sunil Kumar Jha, for significantly influencing his career through his extensive experience as a private school teacher in the academic sector. ‘He serves as a profound source of inspiration and my mentor,’ stated Raj Krishna Jha, a mechanical engineer who began his role as assistant manager at BPCL in 2019.
