Man arrested for firing shots at Sania Mirza’s sister Anam’s Dawat-e-Ramzan expo in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A confrontation between two individuals at the Dawat-e-Ramzan exhibition held at King’s Palace, organized by Anam Mirza, sister of tennis player Sania Mirza, intensified when one individual reportedly discharged a firearm.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, March 29, involved a man allegedly firing two shots during the dispute. Upon being alerted, the police acted swiftly, apprehending the suspect and confiscating the firearm used in the incident.

According to the inspector at Gudimalkapur police station, the altercation arose between the proprietor of a perfume shop and that of a toy shop at the exhibition, as reported by the news agency ANI. “A minor disagreement occurred at the Dawat-e-Ramzan exhibition between the owners of a perfume shop and a toy shop, which was resolved. However, during the incident, the accused, Hassebuddin, unnecessarily discharged two rounds into the air with his licensed pistol,” the inspector stated.

He further mentioned that a case has been filed regarding the incident under the Arms Act, and the police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the gunfire.

Interestingly, the accused, Hassebuddin, also known as Hyder, had no connection to either shop owner, according to police reports. Hyder, a former Sarpanch residing in the AC Guards Paramount Colony, reportedly holds a licensed firearm registered in Nampally.

Hyderabad annually hosts numerous exhibitions and food festivals during the holy month of Ramzan, with Anam Mirza’s Dawat-e-Ramzan being particularly well-known, as noted by a report from Free Press Journal.

Anam Mirza, as indicated on her Instagram profile, has been a fashion curator since 2012 and operates her own YouTube channel. Her Dawat-e-Ramzan and District Bazaar expo in Hyderabad featured over 400 retail stalls and 60 food brands, establishing it as one of the largest exhibitions during Ramzan.

The expo also created job opportunities for more than 3,000 individuals during the month of Ramzan and attracted over 250,000 visitors within an 11-day period.
