Maharashtra Assembly Election Results 2024: In the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has emerged victorious against the opposing Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) faction. The Shinde faction contested 81 seats, securing 57, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) fielded 95 candidates but managed to win only 20 seats. This outcome underscores the effective strategy and considerable public backing for the Shinde faction.
The Shinde faction not only outperformed in terms of seat count but also in vote share, garnering 12.38% of the votes compared to the 9.96% received by Shiv Sena (UBT). This disparity indicates a clear expression of confidence in Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s leadership from the electorate.
Significant setback for Shiv Sena (UBT)
The results represent a substantial setback for Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT). In the 50 constituencies where both factions competed, candidates from the Shinde faction won 36 seats, while those from the Uddhav Thackeray faction secured only 14.
This electoral loss necessitates a period of reflection for Shiv Sena (UBT). The decisive victory of the Mahayuti alliance has solidified the influence of the BJP and the Shinde faction in Maharashtra, compelling the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi to reassess its strategic approach.
Mahayuti alliance’s overwhelming success
The Mahayuti alliance, led by the BJP and including the Shinde faction, achieved a remarkable victory across Maharashtra, reclaiming power with a significant majority by winning 230 out of 288 seats. This triumph is attributed to the effective coordination and strategic electoral planning among the BJP, the Shinde faction, and other allied parties.
