New Delhi: T. Raja Singh, a legislator from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) representing Telangana, asserted on Sunday that the revised Waqf Bill would put an end to what he termed “land jihad” in India.
While addressing a Ram Navami procession, Singh stated that those engaged in “land jihad” have encountered challenges since the establishment of a “saffron government” in the country.
“Individuals who previously erected signs on land claiming it as ‘land jihad’ through Waqf notices, as if it were their ancestral property, will no longer be able to do so, thanks to the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Singh remarked.
The BJP MLA pointed out that at the time of India’s independence, the “Waqf board individuals” possessed approximately 4,000 acres of land. “How did they acquire 9,50,000 (9.5 lakh) acres?” he questioned.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was enacted on Saturday after receiving approval from President Droupadi Murmu, following extensive discussions in both Houses of Parliament the previous week.
Singh emphasized that Muslims should recognize that the amended law would not strip them of their land, citing Modi’s slogan of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” to reinforce his argument.
Singh further accused AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi of being the “biggest enemy of Muslims” and criticized his opposition to the revised Waqf legislation.
The Goshamahal MLA stated that Owaisi’s appeal to the Supreme Court regarding the law would not alter the situation.
In his petition, Owaisi contended that the amendment eliminated essential protections previously afforded to Waqfs, as well as to Hindu, Jain, and Sikh religious and charitable endowments.
Meanwhile, Singh asserted that it is the aspiration of “every Hindu” for the nation to be recognized as a “Hindu Rashtra.”
The Ram Navami procession, led by Singh, commenced in the afternoon and extended late into the night.
To ensure the peaceful conduct of the Ram Navami processions, authorities deployed nearly 20,000 police personnel and implemented comprehensive security measures.
