Kolkata doctor rape and murder: Parents allege role of interns, doctors from RG Kar, 30 suspects in CBI list

Parents allege role of interns, doctors

The family of the medical intern who was brutally raped and killed at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has made serious accusations, indicating that some hospital staff may have been complicit in the crime. They have provided the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with the names of certain interns and doctors whom they suspect were involved. These claims have introduced a new angle to the investigation, which was mandated by the Calcutta High Court.

The parents have voiced their belief that several individuals could have contributed to their daughter’s death. Consequently, the CBI has made it a priority to question these suspects, including officers from the Kolkata Police who were initially in charge of the case. The CBI has identified at least 30 individuals of interest and has commenced their interrogation.

Among those called in by the CBI are a house staff member and two post-graduate trainees who were on duty with the doctor the night she was killed. Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the hospital’s former principal, was also questioned. Dr. Ghosh had stepped down two days after the doctor’s body was found, citing concerns for his safety and seeking legal protection from the Calcutta High Court.

In a significant development, the CBI utilized advanced 3D technology to recreate the crime scene with the arrested civic volunteer, who is one of the suspects. This reconstruction was conducted in the hospital’s seminar hall, where the intern’s body was discovered on August 9.

Political tensions have heightened, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blaming the opposition for instigating unrest at the hospital and spreading false information about the case. At a public event, she denounced the spread of misinformation and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

In response, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia criticized leaders of the opposition alliance INDIA, accusing them of feigning outrage for political gain. He cautioned that their silence on the matter would have serious repercussions and assured that the CBI would ensure that all those responsible, regardless of political affiliations, would be brought to justice.
