Jharkhand-UP Election 2024 Live: On Wednesday, November 20, both Maharashtra and Jharkhand will conduct elections. In Jharkhand, voters will cast their ballots for the remaining 38 seats, following the earlier voting for 43 constituencies on November 13, which saw a voter turnout of 64.86 percent.

In addition to the legislative assembly elections in these two states, by-elections for 15 assembly seats across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala, and Uttarakhand will also take place on the same day. Polling in Jharkhand commenced at 7 am across 14,218 polling stations and will conclude at 5 pm, except for 31 booths where voting will end at 4 pm.

The contest in Jharkhand is primarily between the ruling JMM-led INDIA coalition and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, both vying for dominance in the state. Chief electoral officers in all participating states have been directed to ensure that all necessary provisions are established to assist voters. This includes maintaining accessible and well-conditioned roads to polling stations and ensuring that these facilities are equipped with the essential amenities for a seamless voting process.

Key aspects of the Jharkhand electoral contest include

Out of the 38 constituencies, 18 are located in the significant Santhal Paragana region, which encompasses six districts. Throughout its campaign, the NDA has expressed concerns regarding extensive infiltration in this region during the five-year term of the JMM-led administration.

Notable candidates in the Jharkhand elections include Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his spouse Kalpana Soren, and his sister-in-law Sita Soren, all representing the JMM. The BJP has nominated several prominent individuals, including state president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi.

In Uttar Pradesh, by-elections will occur in nine constituencies, including Katehari, Karhal, Meerapur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Sisamau, Khair, Phulpur, and Kundarki. A total of 90 candidates are contesting, with the highest number of 14 candidates in Ghaziabad.
