Israeli Parliament approves 4-day ceasefire: Hamas will release 50 hostages in return
The war between Israel and Hamas has been going on for the last 6 weeks. Meanwhile, a humanitarian ceasefire agreement has been reached between both sides. After the agreement, Hamas will release about 50 of Israel’s 240 hostages. Israel has also decided to release Palestinian prisoners. According to Times of Israel, Israel has released a list of 300 Palestinian prisoners. Of these 300 prisoners, a total of 287 people are below 18 years of age. They were arrested on charges of rioting and stone pelting in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
A total of 150 women and minors are among the 300 Palestinian prisoners to be released by Israel, whom Israel has agreed to release during the four-day ceasefire. Apart from this, there are 13 women who were arrested for attempting a large-scale terrorist attack.
Why is there a dispute between Israel and Palestine?
This conflict has been going on in this area of the Middle East for at least 100 years. There is a dispute over areas like the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Golan Heights. Palestine claims these areas including East Jerusalem. At the same time, Israel is not ready to give up its claim on Jerusalem.
Gaza Strip is between Israel and Egypt. This place is currently under the control of Hamas. This is an anti-Israel group. In September 2005, Israel withdrew its forces from the Gaza Strip. In 2007, Israel imposed several restrictions on this area. Palestine says that an independent Palestine state should be established in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
