How Mohan Yadav became the first choice for the post of Chief Minister
Recently, Mohan Yadav took oath as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, leaving behind many contenders. His stature has increased within the RSS and BJP, he has implemented many programs of the party at the grassroots level, due to which the central leadership has shown confidence in him.
National President of BJP in a recent interview given on TV. J.P. Nadda said that the party keeps a close watch on all its workers. He said, ‘We have good information on their activities, their history, and their reactions and also study it from time to time.’
Yadav himself was surprised to hear his name called at the BJP legislature party meeting
On December 11, the day he was declared Chief Minister, Yadav himself told reporters that he was surprised to hear his name called at the BJP legislature party meeting.
Yadav, a three-time MLA from Ujjain-South assembly constituency, emerged as a person who left behind many contenders. These included the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, in whose government he was serving as the Higher Education Minister since July 2020.
‘Mohan Pehalwan’
Due to his passion for wrestling, the local people also call him ‘Mohan Pehalwan’ and he has served as the President of the Madhya Pradesh Wrestling Association for 13 years. As president of the wrestling association of the state, he promoted the Indian form of wrestling (wrestling on clay instead of Dangal or mat).
Political journey
He started his political career with student politics in 1982 from Ujjain and later became an official of ABVP in 1984. He was its National Secretary in 1991-92. Mohan Yadav has continuously worked with RSS and BJP. One of his close associates said that he has been an honest worker of the Sangh and the party.
Got a chance to come close to top Sangh officials like Nadda.
In 2003, then Chief Minister Uma Bharti had given him a ticket from the Badnagar assembly constituency of Ujjain, but she returned it after protests by local BJP workers. He waited patiently for the next 10 years and in 2013 he contested the elections from Ujjain South and won.
People who have worked with him say that in the last few years, he has handled the arrangements for the visits of top leaders of RSS and BJP to Ujjain Mahakal. By doing this he got help from Suresh Soni and J.P.
He is a staunch RSS man, and his decisions reflect the Sangh’s ideology of promoting Sanatan culture. Be it the plan to develop lesser-known places associated with Lord Krishna in Madhya Pradesh or the inclusion of Ramayana and Mahabharata as optional subjects in higher education institutions in 2021.
His first decisions after becoming the Chief Minister
His first decisions after becoming the Chief Minister reflected his Hindutva ideology as these included banning the use of loudspeakers above the prescribed limit at religious places and strict enforcement of the ban on the open sale of meat and eggs. Bulldozers have been used in meat shops in cities like Ujjain, Bhopal, and Gwalior.
People who know him closely say that he is very conscious about his image and does not hesitate to take back his decisions to avoid negative publicity. He is also not untouched by controversies, he has been accused of converting agricultural land into residential in the Ujjain Master Plan to benefit himself and his family members. As the uproar increased, Shivraj Singh Chauhan had to intervene in this matter and convert the land back into agricultural land.
Some claim that more than Yadav’s achievements, the caste equation helped him. By making Yadav, an OBC leader, the Chief Minister before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP not only wants to win over the OBC community in Madhya Pradesh but also wants to influence the large number of this community in the neighboring states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Wants.
With only a few months left for the Lok Sabha elections, Yadav faces the challenge of fulfilling the BJP’s assembly election promises and proving his worth to the BJP workers, who are surprised by his becoming the Chief Minister.
