Why does China want to capture Tawang at an altitude of 17000 feet, 3 reasons
It is easy to keep an eye on the whole of Arunachal if the Chinese post is at 17 thousand feet
Tawang town near the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh is situated at an altitude of about 17 thousand feet. This place is very important strategically. The entire Arunachal Pradesh can be monitored from Tawang. For this reason, China keeps plotting to grab it. China had captured Tawang in the 1962 war. However, it was withdrawn after the ceasefire, as Tawang falls inside the McMahon Line or LAC.
Tawang is an important point to cross LAC
The second reason for China’s bad intention on Tawang is that Tawang is one of the two most important points of crossing the LAC between India and China. The first point is the Chamba Valley, which is on the border of Nepal and Tibet. The second place is Tawang, which is at the junction of China and Bhutan. From here it would be very easy for China to keep an eye on the whole of Tibet.
Religious leader Dalai Lama is the main reason for Chinese protest
The third major reason for China’s opposition to Tawang is the Tibetan religious leader, the Dalai Lama. In fact, after leaving Tibet in 1959, the Dalai Lama spent a few days in Tawang. A big Buddhist monastery is also present here. In this context, China considers the occupation of Tawang as a fight for its prestige.
