Jaipur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for certain regions in western India, specifically Rajasthan and Gujarat. A severe heatwave alert has been declared for isolated areas in Rajasthan on April 19. However, no heatwave is anticipated in Delhi until April 22, although temperatures are projected to rise to 41 degrees Celsius during this timeframe.
As reported by the IMD, Delhi experienced a maximum temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, which is 2.3 degrees above the seasonal average. For Thursday, the forecast indicates a maximum temperature of approximately 40 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius.
In addition, the IMD has forecasted rainfall for parts of southern India, including Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, as well as in the northeastern states. Rain is also expected in certain areas of Himachal Pradesh from April 18 to 21.
The IMD has confirmed that there will be no heatwave conditions in Delhi until April 22. From April 17 to April 22, 2025, maximum temperatures in Delhi are anticipated to range from 38°C to 41°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to be between 23°C and 27°C.
Wind patterns will vary each day, with expected flows from the south-east, west, south, south-west, and north-west during this period.
According to the regional meteorological center in New Delhi, there are no forecasts for heatwave or warm night conditions in the national capital until April 22, starting Thursday.
Heatwave conditions are predicted for various regions in West Rajasthan until April 18, with severe heatwave conditions likely in isolated areas on April 19. In East Rajasthan, similar conditions are expected in isolated locations until April 19, while Gujarat may experience these conditions on April 17. Hot and humid weather is anticipated in the Gujarat region, Kerala, and Mahe on April 17, as well as in Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra from April 17 to 20.
Warm nighttime temperatures are anticipated in certain areas of Rajasthan on April 17, as well as in Uttar Pradesh on April 17 and 18.

Kerala and Mahe may experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h until April 19.
- Isolated to scattered rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h, is forecasted for the plains of Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh until April 18. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h across Northeast and East India over the next five days.
- Heavy rainfall is expected in Tripura on April 16, Bihar on April 17, and in Assam and Meghalaya on April 17, with additional heavy rainfall anticipated from April 20 to 22. Arunachal Pradesh is also likely to experience heavy rainfall during the period of April 20 to 22.
- An intense western disturbance is projected to affect the Western Himalayan Region until April 20, bringing thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 40-50 km/h, along with isolated hailstorms on April 18 and 19. Heavy rainfall is also forecasted for isolated areas in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on April 18 and 19.
- Between April 18 and 20, isolated rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30-40 km/h is likely in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and the adjacent plains of northwest India. Furthermore, isolated dust storms or thunderstorms may occur in East Rajasthan on April 17.
