New Year celebrations live updates: The Delhi Police has established comprehensive traffic management and restrictions throughout the city, with a particular emphasis on Connaught Place. Approximately 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been assigned to uphold law and order during the New Year’s Eve festivities. Around 50 teams equipped with glucometers will be deployed at strategic locations to monitor instances of drunk driving. Additional personnel will also utilize alcometers for further assessments.
Traffic officers will be present in significant numbers at popular celebration venues such as Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, and India Gate.
Traffic restrictions will take effect near Connaught Place after 8 PM. The police have issued stickers for vehicles entering Connaught Place post-8 PM. Ten designated areas within Connaught Place will be off-limits to vehicles, as stated by an official.
Personnel will be stationed at 14 locations around India Gate, with measures in place to prevent overcrowding.
“We have developed a thorough plan to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors during the forthcoming New Year’s Eve celebrations,” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), New Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla.
The DCP highlighted that significant crowds are expected at clubs, hotels, restaurants, pubs, malls, parks, and other venues. Special arrangements will be concentrated on Connaught Place, Khan Market, and several five-star hotels, including The Lalit, Imperial, Park, Royal Plaza, Shangri-La, Le Meridien, Taj Mahal, Taj Vivanta, Metropolitan, Claridges, Ashoka, Samrat, ITC Maurya, and Taj Palace, as well as India Gate, ‘C’ Hexagon, Kartavya Path, temples, and gurudwaras.
In Mumbai, over 14,000 police personnel have been deployed for New Year’s Eve to maintain law and order.
Significant crowds are anticipated at key locations, including the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Bandra Bandstand, and Juhu and Versova beaches.
Celebrations in hotels, restaurants, and malls are expected to continue into the early hours of Wednesday.
The security apparatus comprises 12,000 constables, 2,184 officers, 53 assistant commissioners, 29 deputy commissioners, and eight additional commissioners, all tasked with maintaining rigorous oversight and preventing any undesirable occurrences.
