Gaurav Gogoi living like tourist in India: Himanta Biswa Sarma

New Delhi: Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a fierce critique of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi during an election rally in North Salmara, Bongaigaon district on Friday, May 2. Sarma, speaking in support of the NDA alliance candidate, made several provocative statements to the media.

He claimed that Gogoi had recently spent 15 days in Pakistan, a country lacking in tourism appeal, questioning his purpose for such a lengthy visit and demanding accountability from the people of Assam. In a more contentious assertion, Sarma stated that Gogoi’s two children hold citizenship in a foreign nation, challenging him to prove their Indian nationality or he would resign as Chief Minister.

He further remarked on the unusual situation of three out of four family members being foreign citizens, suggesting Gogoi lives in India like a tourist. Sarma also raised concerns about Gogoi’s family allegedly receiving income from Pakistan while residing in India, questioning the legitimacy of their financial ties.

He concluded with a suspicion that Gogoi may have visited Pakistan multiple times, noting that he was only aware of one trip, as Gogoi reportedly left his passport in Israel. These comments have ignited a new controversy in Assam’s political arena as the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections approaches, with Congress yet to respond officially to Sarma’s allegations.
