Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar, a key ally of the BJP, has shown signs of dissent. He declined to meet Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, and there are rumors of him being in contact with Sharad Pawar. Speculation surrounds whether Kumar will stay with the NDA or join the India Alliance, with reports suggesting the latter has offered him the Deputy Prime Minister position. In contrast, Prime Minister Modi has been in communication with Chandrababu Naidu. There have been rumors of tension between the RSS and the BJP, with some suggesting that RSS-influenced BJP leaders might challenge Modi’s leadership.
The Opposition has responded critically, with Rahul Gandhi of the Congress party asserting that the election results indicate a rejection of Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah’s leadership.
The numbers currently stand with the Opposition India bloc surprising pollsters by leading in at least 228 seats, while the NDA is close to the 300-seat mark with 297 seats. The BJP, short of a majority on its own, has initiated discussions with TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu after calls from Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
