New Delhi: The Election Commission has declared that the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases starting from September 18, while Haryana will have its polls in a single phase on October 1.
Regarding the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, the Election Commission has set the dates for 2024. The full schedule for the assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir has been announced.
When queried about the possibility of Maharashtra Assembly Elections coinciding with the Haryana polls, the Election Commission responded, “In the past, Maharashtra and Haryana elections were held simultaneously. However, this time, due to the involvement of Jammu and Kashmir, one state could be scheduled later. This year, there are four elections, with a fifth to follow immediately after. The sequence will start with J&K, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi.”
“Considering the need for security forces, which is more pronounced in J&K, we have decided to conduct two elections simultaneously. We can announce the elections for Maharashtra while the J&K elections are underway. Additionally, the monsoon season in Maharashtra and several festivals—such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Pitru Paksha, Navratri, and Diwali—have influenced our decision to hold two elections at this time,” Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated.
“We are capable of managing two elections simultaneously, and in any case, the elections can be held within six months of the assembly’s term ending,” Kumar further clarified.
