New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will represent India at the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Donald J. Trump, who will assume office as the 47th President of the United States of America.
During his visit, Jaishankar is expected to hold discussions with members of the incoming administration as well as other dignitaries present at the ceremony.
In a statement, the government indicated, “At the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America.”
Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated on January 20, with the presidential oath being administered by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts at noon (Eastern Time) in front of the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Prior to Trump’s inauguration, the Vice President-elect JD Vance will be sworn in. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) recently announced the theme for the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies as “Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise.”
This theme pays tribute to the Founders’ commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the democratic system for future generations of Americans.
In a separate directive, President Biden has ordered that U.S. flags be flown at half-staff for 30 days in memory of former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100. This declaration will remain in effect until sunset on January 28.
The United States Congress officially certified Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election held in November on January 6, thereby removing the last obstacle to his return to the White House later this month.
The congressional ceremony confirmed the results of the 2024 Electoral College. The event, which was presided over by Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s principal opponent in the election, was conducted succinctly and without significant fanfare.
