New Delhi: On what would have marked the 27th birthday of Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, his wife, Himanshi Narwal, made a poignant call for peace and unity. Vinay Narwal was one of the 26 individuals who tragically lost their lives to terrorists in Baisaran, near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Himanshi Narwal, a PhD scholar from Gurugram, expressed, ‘I simply wish for the entire nation to pray for him, hoping that wherever he may be, he remains healthy and content.’ She emphasized the necessity of not directing hostility towards any particular community, stating, ‘We do not wish for people to turn against Muslims or Kashmiris. Our desire is for peace, and only peace.
Naturally, we seek justice as well.’ To commemorate Vinay Narwal’s 27th birthday, a blood donation camp was held in Karnal, Haryana. Both Narwal’s mother and wife, Himanshi, were overcome with emotion as tributes were paid to the naval officer. The camp was organized by the National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists, a Karnal-based NGO. Various speakers at the event highlighted the late officer’s unwavering dedication to his country during his service, affirming that he will forever remain in the hearts of many.
One speaker, referencing the Pahalgam terror attack, remarked that while terrorists took the lives of innocent individuals, this blood donation camp would help save many lives. BJP MLA Jagmohan Anand from Karnal was also in attendance. Just a week prior to the April 22 attack, Narwal and Himanshi had married and were on their honeymoon in Pahalgam when terrorists fatally shot the naval officer at close range. In a widely circulated video, a visibly distraught Himanshi recounted the incident, saying, ‘I was eating bhel puri, and my husband was with me. A man approached and inquired if he was a Muslim. When he denied, the man shot him dead.’ Narwal’s colleagues remembered him as a joyful and committed officer.
