Cloud burst in Sikkim, 23 soldiers missing: Army camps uprooted, 41 vehicles drowned

Cloudburst in Sikkim: 23 soldiers went missing due to a sudden flood in the Teesta River following a cloudburst in Sikkim. According to Defense PRO, there was a cloud burst over Lhonak Lake around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, following which there was a sudden flood in Teesta River in Lachen Valley.

There was an army camp in the area adjacent to the river, which was washed away after being hit by the flood. Defense PRO of Guwahati said that due to the sudden rise in water, water had to be released from Chungthang Dam. After this, the low-lying areas also started sinking. Here 41 army vehicles parked at Bardang near Singtam were drowned.

According to the Army, after the cloudburst incident, the water level of Teesta River suddenly increased by 15 to 20 feet. After this, the surrounding areas adjacent to the river were flooded. River water also entered many houses. People left their homes and went to safe areas.

Rescue operation continues
Defense PRO of Guwahati said that after the accident, a rescue operation has been started to search for the missing army soldiers. The local administration is also running the rescue operation at its level. However, no information regarding loss of life and property has been revealed yet.

NDRF team deployed
NDRF rescued 7 people from Singtam in Sikkim where a cloudburst had created a flood-like situation. One team of NDRF is deployed in Gangtok and two teams are deployed in areas adjacent to Sikkim in West Bengal.

There was a cloud burst on June 16 also
Earlier, there was a cloud burst in Sikkim on June 16. Here in Pakyong, houses were flooded due to landslides and then clouds burst. Many people were affected by this.

Alert of heavy rain in North-East states today and tomorrow
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in eastern and northeastern states for October 4 and 5. These include Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

4 major cloud burst incidents this year…

August 24: There was a cloudburst in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. In which 51 people were trapped. The NDRF team had rescued everyone safely. The bridge was broken into two due to the spate of the Balad river due to rain in Baddi district. In Pandoh, one person died after being hit by debris while a school building was washed away in a drain.

August 9: Cloud burst in Paonta Sahib of Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, due to which a house collapsed due to a flash flood in Sirmauri Tal village. Five people from the same family were affected by it. Two children were also included in these. The bodies of two people were recovered.

July 22: Many vehicles were washed away in the flood caused by a cloudburst in Shimla. Many houses were damaged there. However, there was no information about any casualty. However, due to rain, the highway was closed due to a landslide on Chamba-Pathankot NH.

July 25: Cloudburst caused massive destruction in Rampur in Shimla district of Himachal. Due to a cloud burst in Kandar village of Sartara Panchayat of Rampur block, six houses of people including a primary school, and a youth club collapsed. More than one and a half dozen domesticated cattle were swept away in the flood. Water entered many houses and half a dozen vehicles were also damaged.

In two incidents in July, 3 Navy officers and two Army soldiers lost their lives
Earlier on July 20, cloud burst incidents occurred at 4 places in Kullu, Himachal. In which many people were washed away in the flood. Three officers of the Indian Navy who had come to visit Manali were also included in this. At the same time, on July 9, two army soldiers were washed away in the flood in the Poonch district of Jammu. The bodies of both the soldiers were recovered.
