Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav responded on Sunday to the expulsion of his elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party due to ‘irresponsible behaviour’, stating that the party “cannot tolerate such actions”. Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from the party for a duration of six years by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav because of his “irresponsible behaviour”. The RJD leader also severed all familial ties with his elder son.

This expulsion occurred a day after Tej Pratap Yadav posted a photograph with a woman on social media, referring to her as his ‘partner’ for nearly 12 years. The post was quickly removed, and Tej Pratap Yadav asserted that his Facebook account had been hacked and that his images were improperly edited.

“We cannot tolerate such actions; we are committed to serving the people of Bihar. Regarding my elder brother, political and personal lives are distinct. He has the right to make his own personal choices. He is an adult and free to make decisions,” Tejashwi Yadav stated to reporters concerning his brother’s expulsion from the party.

“Our party’s leader has made his stance clear, and since he expressed it, those are his sentiments. We have not questioned such matters… What he does in his personal life is not something anyone inquires about before taking action. I learned about it only through the media,” he further added.

What Lalu Prasad said?

Lalu Yadav expressed on the microblogging platform X that the “actions, public demeanor, and irresponsible conduct of his eldest son do not align with our family values and traditions.”

“Disregarding moral principles in personal matters undermines our collective fight for social justice,” stated the RJD leader.

“Consequently, in light of these circumstances, I am removing him from both the party and the family. He will no longer hold any position or role within the party or family. He is expelled from the party for a duration of 6 years. He is capable of discerning the positives and negatives, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of his personal life. Those who choose to associate with him must make their own judgments. I have consistently supported the notion of public accountability in public life. The responsible members of the family have embraced and adhered to this principle in their public conduct,” Lalu Yadav stated.
