Lucknow: A video has surfaced on social media depicting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amar Kishore Kashyap allegedly involved in an “inappropriate” act with a woman at the party’s Gonda district office. This incident has sparked significant controversy, prompting the BJP’s state leadership to issue a show-cause notice and request a written explanation from him within a week, according to news agency PTI.
The footage, reportedly captured on April 12 by CCTV cameras at the BJP district office in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, shows Kashyap seemingly making “inappropriate advances” towards a woman on the office staircase. The woman featured in the video is believed to be a BJP worker.
The action followed a complaint from a fellow party member who labeled the incident as “shameful” and formally reported Kashyap’s behavior to the party’s Uttar Pradesh leadership.
In response, Kashyap has refuted any allegations of misconduct. He asserted that his political adversaries are exploiting the video to tarnish his reputation.
“The woman in the video is a party worker. She was unwell that day and asked for a place to rest. I assisted her to the office. While we were going up the stairs, she became dizzy, and I supported her. The footage is being misused to defame me,” Kashyap stated.
Video impacts party reputation: BJP
Despite his defense, the BJP’s state general secretary, Govind Narayan Shukla, issued a show-cause notice to the BJP Gonda chief for behavior that the party believes undermines its public image.
“The video that has circulated on social media has revealed conduct that adversely affects the party’s reputation and is categorized as indiscipline,” the notice stated, as reported by PTI.
It further indicated that Kashyap is required to submit a written response within seven days.
“Following the directives of the state president, you are hereby instructed to provide a written explanation to the BJP state office within seven days. Failure to deliver a satisfactory response within the specified timeframe will result in strict disciplinary action.
