UP’s Bahubali Atiq Ahmed’s wife has written a letter to CM Yogi Adityanath pleading to save her husband’s life. There was a time when Atiq was another name for fear in Purvanchal. The fear was such that 10 judges recused themselves from hearing his case.
Ateeq Ahmed may be lodged in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail, but he is again in the limelight due to the recent Umesh Pal murder in Prayagraj. Actually, Umesh was the main witness in the murder of former MLA Raju Pal, and Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf are accused.
It is about the year 1979. Allahabad Now a boy from Chakia of Prayagraj failed in 10th class. Father Firoz Ahmed used to run the family by running a tonga. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Atiq Ahmed fell into the company of miscreants. Now he is obsessed with getting rich quickly. Due to this, he started carrying out incidents like robbery, kidnapping, and extortion. In the same year, a case of murder was registered against Atiq.
At that time there used to be a fear of Chand Baba in the old city of Allahabad. Police and politicians were upset with Chand Baba. In such a situation, Atiq Ahmed got along with both. In 7 years, Atiq had become more dangerous than Chand Baba. Horrible incidents like robbery, kidnapping, and murder started to be executed continuously.
The police who had instigated Atiq have now become the thorn in his side.
In 1986, the police arrests him. However, Atiq uses his clout and contacts the then-Congress leader of Allahabad. Netaji had access to Delhi. Work done, got a call from Delhi and Ateeq is out of jail.
Atiq had now become a big name in the world of crime. Enters politics in the year 1989 and announces to contest the assembly elections from the western seat of the city. This time the competition was with the arch-rival Chand Baba. In such a situation, gang war was bound to happen.
In this too, Atik won the election and due to his panic won the election. A few months later, Chand Baba was murdered in broad daylight at the crossroads. Now the name of the criminal Atiq was dominant in the entire Purvanchal.
In the years 1991 and 1993 also, Ateeq won the elections as an independent. In the year 1995, Atiq’s name also surfaced in Lucknow’s famous guest house incident. Became MLA in the year 1996 on SP ticket. In the year 1999, contested from Pratapgarh on an Apna Dal ticket and lost. Then in 2002, became MLA for the 5th time from his old Allahabad West seat.
After many horrific incidents, the fear of Atiq increased so much that no leader was ready to contest elections from Allahabad’s city west seat. Even when the parties used to give tickets, the leaders used to return them. In the year 2004 Loksabha election, Atiq Ahmed wins the election from the Phulpur seat of UP on the SP ticket. At that time Atiq was the MLA from Allahabad West seat.
Had to leave the Legislature after becoming an MP. The by-election took place. The SP nominated Atiq’s younger brother Ashraf. Meanwhile, Raju Pal, who is considered to be Atiq’s right hand, announced to contest the elections on the BSP ticket. Raju Pal wins the election in October 2004. For the first time, Atik got hit in his own area. Now it was about influence.
Raju Pal married Pooja Pal on 15 January 2005, 3 months after becoming an MLA. Raju Pal was murdered on 25 January 2005, exactly 10 days after the wedding. The names of Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf came to the fore in this massacre.
In the year 2005, after the murder of MLA Raju Pal, Atiq Ahmed’s bad time started. In the year 2007, the government of UP changed. Mayawati became the head of the state. As soon as the SP came to power, Atiq was thrown out of the party. As soon as she became the CM, Mayawati started Operation Ateeq. Atiq was declared most wanted by keeping a reward of 20 thousand.
More than 100 criminal cases are registered against Atiq Ahmed, including cases like murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, and extortion. He is accused of murdering Chand Baba in 1989, Nasson’s murder in 2002, Ashraf, a BJP leader close to Murli Manohar Joshi in 2004, and Raju Pal’s murder in 2005.
Due to the continuous filing of lawsuits, his political career also came to a full stop. Atiq Ahmed was in jail during the 2012 UP assembly elections. In 2012, he applied for bail in the Allahabad High Court to contest elections. However, 10 judges of the High Court recused themselves from hearing the case. The 11th judge held the hearing and Ateeq Ahmed got bail.
Atiq Ahmed was defeated in the election. He was defeated by Pooja Pal, the wife of Raju Pal. In the 2014 Loksabha election also he contested from the Shravasti seat on the Samajwadi Party ticket but lost to BJP’s Dadan Mishra.
After this, in the 2019 general elections, he contested against Modi on the Varanasi seat from jail itself. This time again the bail was forfeited.
