Assembly election: Assembly elections are to be held in 5 states of the country, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram. A meeting of the Election Commission is going on in Delhi regarding this. This includes election observers from the five states including Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
According to media reports, voting can be held in these states from November 15 to December 7. The dates can be announced any time after October 8. In 2018, the dates were announced on 6 October.
Election Commission sources said voting in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, and Telangana may be held in a single phase like in 2018. In Chhattisgarh too, like last time, voting is likely to be held in two phases.
Voting dates may vary in the five states. The counting of votes in all five states can happen simultaneously between December 10 and 15. Out of the five states where elections are to be held, in four there are more women voters than men.
The tenure of Mizoram Assembly will end on December 17.
The tenure of the Mizoram Assembly ends on December 17 this year. BJP’s ally Mizo National Front (MNF) is in power in the northeastern state. The tenure of the assemblies of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan is ending on different dates in January next year.

Efforts to finalize election dates
Before announcing the schedule of assembly elections in five states, the Election Commission has taken stock of the election preparations in Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.
The Election Commission has called a meeting of its observers on Friday to finalize the strategy for the election process.
