Lucknow: A catastrophic fire erupted on a moving bus in Lucknow early Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of five passengers, including two children, two women, and one man. The bus, traveling from Bihar to Delhi, suddenly ignited on the Kisan Path near Mohanlalganj around 5 AM, as confirmed by local police.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that most passengers were asleep and only awoke when smoke began to fill the bus. Alarmingly, the driver reportedly broke a window and abandoned the scene, leaving the passengers to escape on their own.
An additional seat installed near the driver’s area obstructed the exit, causing several passengers to become trapped and fall while attempting to flee. Locals responded quickly upon hearing about the fire, notifying the police and fire department.
Firefighters were able to control the blaze within 30 minutes, but by that time, the entire bus had been consumed by flames. Preliminary police investigations have indicated that the bus’s emergency exit failed to function, which likely exacerbated the casualty rate. The bus was entirely destroyed within a mere ten minutes. Authorities are actively pursuing their investigation into this tragic incident.
