Tesla’s India Head Resigns As Musk’s Company Prepares For Country Launch: Report

New Delhi: The head of Tesla in India has stepped down after nine years with the company, coinciding with the U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer’s anticipated entry into the world’s third-largest automotive market, as reported by Bloomberg News on Thursday, citing sources familiar with the situation.

Tesla’s operations in India will now be managed by its teams from China, with no immediate successor announced. Additionally, Prashanth Menon is resigning from his position as chairman of Tesla India’s board.

Tesla, which has long aimed to enter the Indian market, has not yet responded to a request for comment from Reuters. Meanwhile, India is negotiating a trade agreement with the U.S. that may include reduced auto tariffs, which could benefit Tesla, as the company has already secured locations for showrooms to start selling imported vehicles in the country this year.

Furthermore, Tesla has listed nearly two dozen mid-level job openings in India, including positions for store, service, and customer relationship managers, indicating progress in its plans to establish a presence in the market.
