Delhi-NCR Rains, Weather Highlights: IMD forecasts rain spell with thunderstorm, strong winds in Capital today

Delhi-NCR Rainfall and Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a new spell of rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds across the Delhi-NCR region. On Friday, Delhi experienced its second-highest single-day rainfall for May since 1901, resulting in significant waterlogging and traffic congestion. The forecast indicates that Delhi and neighboring states will see cloudy conditions and light rain until Tuesday (May 6).

Actions to be taken

The Minister of the Delhi Public Works Department (PWD), Parvesh Sahib Singh, announced during a high-level meeting with engineers and officials on Saturday a special 21-day cleanliness initiative targeting drains and roads in the Capital. He assured residents that all preventive measures would be finalized by May 30, prior to the arrival of the monsoon season. Officials reported that the city has received over 200 complaints concerning waterlogging and more than 250 complaints related to uprooted trees and fallen branches.

‘poor’ AQI

The air quality in the city has deteriorated to a ‘poor’ level, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) measurement of 212 recorded at 9 am, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, according to PTI. The expected minimum temperature is 21 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is anticipated to reach 35 degrees Celsius.
