New Delhi: The enigmatic death of former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash has sent shockwaves throughout the state. His body, found with visible injuries, was located at his residence, as reported by PTI.
The discovery was made on the ground floor of his three-story home in the affluent HSR Layout area of Bengaluru, where he was found lying in a pool of blood.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) East Vikas Kumar, “It appears that a sharp weapon was employed, resulting in significant blood loss that ultimately led to his death.”
Kumar noted that the motives behind this tragic incident remain uncertain, and no arrests have been made thus far.
Authorities have initiated inquiries with Prakash’s wife and daughter concerning the circumstances surrounding his death.
ACP Kumar further stated, “Once the case is officially registered, a comprehensive investigation will commence. Currently, no arrests have been made. Preliminary findings suggest that the situation may be of an internal nature.”
Who was Om Prakash?
Om Prakash was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1981 batch, originally hailing from Champaran in Bihar.
He held a master’s degree in Geology and was appointed as the DGP of Karnataka on March 1, 2015, retiring two years later.
Prakash began his law enforcement career as an additional superintendent of police in Harapanahalli and subsequently served as ASP in Ballari district, as well as superintendent of police (SP) in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru.
His career also included roles within the state Lokayukta, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
As reported by PTI, the retired DGP had previously voiced concerns about potential threats to his life to close associates.
Police are investigating the possibility of a close family member’s involvement in the case, with indications of ongoing property disputes within the family.
