Blast outside Punjab BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia’s Jalandhar home, probe on

New Delhi: An explosion occurred outside the residence of Manoranjan Kalia, a leader of the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the early hours of Tuesday, as reported by the news agency ANI.

Fortunately, the BJP leader is unharmed. Following the incident, police teams were dispatched to Kalia’s home, and forensic experts were seen gathering evidence from the blast site. An investigation has been initiated to determine the individual responsible for the attack.

In his remarks regarding the incident, Kalia stated, “There was a blast at around 1 am… I was asleep and initially thought it was thunder… Later, I was informed that an explosion had occurred… Subsequently, I sent my gunman to the police station… CCTV footage is being reviewed; forensic experts are also present here.”

Manpreet Singh, the deputy commissioner of police in Jalandhar, indicated that the forensic teams would analyze the evidence and provide a report.

Dhanpreet Kaur, the police commissioner, visited the blast site. She noted, “We received information about the explosion around 1 am. We arrived at the scene and commenced our investigation. The forensic team is examining the situation… We are also reviewing the CCTV footage. The forensic team is trying to ascertain whether it was a grenade attack or something else,” she explained.

Recent Grenade Attacks in Punjab

Last month, four individuals, including a woman, were apprehended for their alleged role in throwing a grenade at the residence of a YouTuber based in Jalandhar. The main suspect, identified as Amritpreet Singh, sustained a gunshot wound during an encounter near Chuharwali village.

In another incident, two masked assailants launched explosives outside the Thakur Dwara Temple in the Khandwala area of Amritsar. Although there were no injuries, the explosion caused damage to the temple’s walls and shattered its windows.

Between November 2024 and February 2025, a series of ten explosions have been reported outside police facilities in Punjab.
