Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Abu Qatal, mastermind of Rajouri attack, shot dead in Pakistan: Report

New Delhi: Faisal Nadeem, known as Abu Qatal, a prominent operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba and one of the most sought-after terrorists, was reported killed in Pakistan on Saturday night, according to India Today.

Qatal, who had close ties with Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, was charged alongside two other Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in relation to the January 2023 attacks in Rajouri.

This charge sheet was part of the NIA’s initiative to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.

The case, designated as RC-01 & 02/2023/NIA/JMU, involved a terror assault on civilians in Dhangri, Rajouri, on January 1, 2023, which was followed by an IED explosion the subsequent day.

The attacks resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, including two children, and left several others with serious injuries.

The three identified LeT operatives in the charge sheet were Abu Qatal, Saifullah, also known as Sajid Jutt, and Mohd Qasim, who is recognized by various aliases including Ali, Habibullah, and Nouman.

Investigations indicated that this trio was responsible for the recruitment and deployment of LeT terrorists from Pakistan, targeting civilians, particularly from minority communities in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as security forces. The attacks were executed under their guidance.
