New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday called upon Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to take decisive measures against individuals within the party who support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This statement from the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh follows Rahul Gandhi’s remarks regarding the Congress party’s organizational deficiencies in Gujarat, where it has not held power for nearly thirty years.
“When will Rahul Gandhi take action to expel BJP supporters from Congress?” Singh inquired on X.

“There exist two categories of individuals within the Gujarat Congress leadership and its workforce. One group is genuinely committed to the people, advocates for their rights, respects them, and embodies the Congress ideology. The other group is disconnected from the populace, remains distant, lacks respect, and includes individuals who are aligned with the BJP,” Gandhi stated in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
He emphasized that the party’s primary responsibility should be to “distinguish between these two factions, even if it necessitates the stringent action of removing certain members.”
Digvijaya Singh also recounted a personal experience from his campaign in Gujarat during his tenure as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
“I remember being advised not to criticize the RSS during my campaign in Gujarat, as it could alienate Hindu voters,” Singh remarked.
The Congress MP further criticized the BJP and its ideological affiliate, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing them of exploiting Hindus under the guise of religion.
“However, the reality is that the RSS does not truly represent Hindus; rather, it misguides and takes advantage of them in the name of faith,” Singh asserted.
He also raised questions regarding the legitimacy of the RSS, asking which esteemed Hindu spiritual leaders, such as the Shankaracharyas, endorse the organization.
“The tradition of Shankaracharyas, the Hindu spiritual leaders, has been established for thousands of years and continues to this day. Which of these Shankaracharyas support @BJP4India and @RSSorg today?” said the Congress MP.
