New Delhi: Indian-American Kash Patel was officially inaugurated as the ninth Director of the FBI on Friday, taking his oath on the Bhagavad Gita. Surrounded by his girlfriend and family during the ceremony, he recited the oath while other relatives observed from the front row.
The event was held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where US Attorney General Pam Bondi administered the oath. Patel’s appointment follows his confirmation by the US Senate, succeeding Christopher Wray, as reported by Fox News.
After taking the oath, Patel expressed that he was embodying the American dream, stating that a “first-generation Indian is set to lead the law enforcement agency of the greatest nation on earth.”
He remarked, “I am living the American dream, and for anyone who believes that the American dream is no longer attainable, look right here. You are speaking to a first-generation Indian who is about to lead the law enforcement agency of the greatest nation on earth. Such a thing cannot happen anywhere else.”
Patel also emphasized his commitment to ensuring accountability within the FBI. He stated, “I assure you that there will be accountability both within the FBI and beyond.”
In support of Kash Patel’s appointment as Director of the FBI, US President Donald Trump expressed his strong endorsement, describing him as a “tough, strong” individual.
Regarding Patel’s swearing-in, Trump commented, “One of the reasons I admire Kash (Patel) and wanted to appoint him is due to the respect he commands from the agents. He will be remembered as the best ever in that role.”
