Trump-Modi meet possible around AI Summit in France?

New Delhi: Following a warm and cordial conversation lasting over 20 minutes between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, it seems that both leaders are moving towards an early summit to establish a framework for India-US relations.

There is a significant likelihood that the two leaders will convene next month in Washington, coinciding with the artificial intelligence summit in France scheduled for February 10-12, although the specific dates are still under consideration. During their phone call, the leaders appeared aligned in their views as they addressed both bilateral and global issues, with the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza being prominent topics.

Sources indicate that the dialogue reflected a friendship that dates back to Trump’s tenure as the 45th President of the United States.

The discussion included the QUAD initiative in relation to the Indo-Pacific, with efforts underway to finalize the summit dates for later this year in India. President Trump emphasized India’s acquisition of American-made security equipment and the importance of fair trade, while India is poised to purchase 31 Predator MQ-9B armed drones from the US for approximately USD four billion.

President Trump has also conveyed to the media that PM Modi will take appropriate actions regarding illegal immigration, as the 47th President intensifies his election commitment to curb illegal entries into the US. Trump previously demonstrated his resolve to address illegal immigration by compelling Colombia to accept undocumented migrants or face trade tariffs and restrictions on US visas.

It is clear that India-US relations are poised for significant advancement under Trump 2.0, as the interactions between the new administration’s key figures and top leaders have been notably positive, with both parties dedicated to enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
