New Delhi: Five individuals lost their lives, and more than 35 others sustained injuries following a collision involving a truck and several other vehicles, which subsequently caught fire near a petrol station on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway on Friday morning, according to police reports. The incident took place directly in front of the petrol pump.
Initial reports indicate that the truck responsible for the collision was carrying a chemical load. Some individuals suffered burn injuries as a result of the fire, as reported by the news agency PTI.
“The fire has spread to multiple trucks. The exact number of trucks involved remains uncertain. Those with burn injuries have been swiftly transported to hospitals via ambulances,” stated Manish Gupta, Station House Officer (SHO) of Bhankrota, as quoted by PTI. Traffic on the highway has been halted.
Jaipur District Magistrate Jitendra Soni reported that approximately 40 vehicles were engulfed in flames during the incident, noting that most of the fire has been brought under control with the assistance of fire brigades. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the hospital where the injured individuals are being treated.
“Four fatalities have been confirmed. Between 24 and 25 individuals are currently in the ICU, and more patients are arriving. Numerous people have been injured in this tragic incident, which is indeed a severe accident,” remarked Dr. Deepak Maheshwari, Principal of SMS Medical College.
In a separate incident in Jaipur, a significant fire erupted at a market in the MI Road area on Wednesday evening, destroying three shops, according to police reports.
