Five terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in J&K’s Kulgam

New Delhi: Five terrorists were neutralized during an encounter with security forces in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, as reported by the news agency PTI, citing official sources. Two personnel from the security forces sustained injuries during the operation, according to the officials.

The confrontation commenced after security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the Kadder area of Behibagh on Wednesday night, following intelligence regarding the presence of suspected terrorists. The search escalated into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on the security forces, who responded accordingly.

“On December 19, 2024, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police at Kader, Kulgam. Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity, and upon being challenged, the terrorists unleashed indiscriminate and heavy gunfire. Our troops effectively retaliated,” stated the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps in a post on X.

Earlier this month, a terrorist affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), who was allegedly involved in a fatal attack at a tunnel construction site in Gagangeer, central Kashmir, in October, was killed in a gunfight with security forces in a forested area of Srinagar.

In that attack, seven unarmed individuals, including laborers and staff members of a contractor working on a tunnel for the strategic Srinagar-Leh national highway, were killed when terrorists opened fire indiscriminately as the workers returned to their campsite in the evening.

This incident marked the deadliest attack on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir since the June 9 event in Reasi, where nine pilgrims lost their lives when their bus fell into a valley after coming under gunfire from terrorists.

On November 23, Baramulla Police, in collaboration with security forces, dismantled a terror hideout in the Kunzer area of Baramulla district.

On November 9, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint Operation was launched by the Army and JK Police in the general area of Rajpura, Sopore, Baramulla.
