Delhi assembly polls: AAP’s 4th list out, Arvind Kejriwal to contest from New Delhi

Delhi Assembly Election: AAP List

New Delhi: In the upcoming 2025 Delhi assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal will contest from the New Delhi constituency, while Chief Minister Atishi will represent the Kalkaji constituency once again. The party has released its fourth and final candidate list, which includes Kejriwal and Atishi, along with 36 other candidates, featuring prominent party figures such as Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Satyendra Kumar Jain, and Durgesh Pathak.

The elections for the 70-member assembly in the national capital are scheduled for February 2025. As the assembly elections approach, Kejriwal has dismissed any prospects of a pre-election alliance with the Congress, asserting that AAP will rely on its own capabilities to contest the elections.

Saurabh Bharadwaj will run from Greater Kailash, while Gopal Rai is set to contest from Babarpur. The final list also includes Satyendra Kumar Jain from Shakur Basti and Durgesh Pathak from Rajinder Nagar.

Additional candidates on the list are Ramesh Pehalwan from Kasturba Nagar, Raghuvinder Shokeen from Nangloi, Imran Hussain from Ballimaran, Jarnail Singh from Tilak Nagar, and Sanjeev Jha from Burari.

There had been considerable speculation regarding a potential alliance between AAP and Congress, particularly after Kejriwal’s participation in an opposition meeting addressing alleged tampering of EVM and VVPAT machines during the recent Maharashtra assembly elections. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, AAP and Congress had formed an alliance in Delhi and other regions across the country.

As the assembly elections draw near, it is anticipated that Kejriwal may face off against the sons of two former chief ministers of Delhi. The Congress has already nominated Sandeep Dikshit, son of former CM Sheila Dikshit, while the BJP is expected to field Parvesh Sahib Singh, son of ex-CM Sahib Singh Verma.

Parvesh informed Opinion Class on Saturday that he has been requested to prepare for a candidacy in the upcoming elections for the New Delhi constituency, a seat that Arvind Kejriwal will also be contesting.

Kejriwal’s Promise

He criticized the Aam Aadmi Party’s decade of governance, stating that it has led Delhi to the verge of disaster. Parvesh pledged to ensure accessibility and responsiveness, committing to stand by the residents “24 hours a day in your happiness and sorrow.”

In a related development, earlier this week, Arvind Kejriwal unveiled five commitments aimed at auto drivers in Delhi. Notable among these commitments are a financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for the marriage of daughters and a life insurance policy valued at ₹10 lakh.

Additionally, the AAP leader has promised a financial allowance of ₹2,500 during Diwali and Holi to assist with the purchase of school uniforms. While defending his party’s administration, Kejriwal also cautioned against the BJP last month, asserting that a BJP victory would lead to a resurgence of power outages for the residents of Delhi. He remarked, “Electricity is free in Delhi, but it is quite expensive in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar,” while criticizing the governance in BJP-led states.
