Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena, NCP, Congress
New Delhi: Devendra Fadnavis, following his inauguration as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a third term, addressed the media on Thursday evening, emphasizing his commitment to establishing a stable government over the next five years. He stated that under his leadership, the state would experience a politics of transformation rather than retribution.
Since 2019, Maharashtra has undergone significant political changes. The alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena collapsed after the assembly elections, resulting in the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which included the Shiv Sena, NCP, and Congress. In 2022, a rebellion led by Eknath Shinde caused a split within the Shiv Sena, leading to the downfall of the MVA government. Eknath Shinde subsequently formed an alliance with the BJP and assumed the role of chief minister. Following the recent Maharashtra elections, Devendra Fadnavis resumed his position as chief minister on December 5.
“From 2019 to mid-2022, we witnessed numerous changes. We hope to avoid similar upheavals in the future,” NDTV reported Fadnavis as stating. He reiterated that there would be a focus on change rather than revenge. Fadnavis asserted that this Mahayuti government would prioritize the needs of the people, operate with transparency, and accelerate the state’s development.
Regarding the position of Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra assembly, he noted that the determination of this role, given that the Maha Vikas Aghadi holds fewer than 50 seats in the 288-member assembly, would be the responsibility of the new speaker rather than the government.
He highlighted that in the Lok Sabha, when the principal opposition party lacked sufficient numbers for the LoP position, the leader of the largest political party was granted all necessary powers.
