New Delhi: His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuk are scheduled to undertake a State Visit to India. The royal couple from Bhutan will be in India for a two-day visit on December 5 and December 6.
On December 5, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk is set to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg at 11:30 AM. The King last visited India in November, shortly after Bhutan and China engaged in border discussions.
During the previous visit, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar welcomed King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk upon his arrival after a trip to Assam. It is anticipated that Minister Jaishankar will again receive the King and Queen at IGI Airport Terminal 3 at 9:10 AM on Thursday.
Currently, Bhutan and China are in discussions regarding boundary matters. China has long-standing border disputes with India, claiming Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh as part of its territory, both of which are integral parts of India.
In the previous visit, the presence of Jaishankar signified the ceremonial welcome extended to the King, who was in India for an eight-day visit shortly after Bhutan’s Foreign Minister Tandi Dorji and China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong co-chaired the 25th Round of Boundary Talks in Beijing.
Following these discussions, China asserted that Bhutan is prepared to collaborate for a prompt resolution of the boundary issue and to establish diplomatic relations.
During his last official visit to India, the King met with Prime Minister Modi. On Thursday, His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk is expected to meet with Dr. S. Jaishankar at the Taj Palace Hotel at 3:30 PM. It is presumed that the agenda will include discussions on border issues and other bilateral matters.
