Trinamool Congress decision
New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress has decided not to participate in the INDIA coalition. Today, the party did not attend the INDIA meeting held at the office of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament. The Trinamool Congress opposes the monopolization of Lok Sabha proceedings by focusing solely on the indictment of Adani Green directors by the U.S. Department of Justice. This morning, Congress MP Manickam Tagore submitted a notice for an Adjournment Motion to address the Adani matter.
However, Congress and MPs from various parties have expressed the need to discuss several other pressing issues, including the mosque survey in Sambhal, the damage caused by Cyclone Fengal, rising prices, the targeting of ISKCON monks in Bangladesh, the situation in Manipur, and delays in paddy procurement in Punjab.
The Trinamool Congress aims to raise six significant issues in the House, including the situation in Manipur, inflation, unemployment, and budgetary constraints. However, sources within the TMC, who wish to remain anonymous, indicated that Congress is primarily focused on the Adani issue. Consequently, the TMC did not attend the INDIA floor leaders’ meeting today.
These sources further noted that the TMC is the only party within the INDIA bloc that does not have an electoral alliance with Congress, prioritizing the interests of West Bengal. The party feels no obligation to attend any INDIA bloc meetings if its concerns are not included in the agenda. Trinamool General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has repeatedly stated that the party wishes to address matters pertinent to West Bengal during the Winter session of Parliament.
The ongoing chaos and noise in the House have led to repeated adjournments, hindering proceedings. The Winter session is scheduled to conclude on December 20. Both sides remain steadfast in their positions, resulting in a stalemate at the expense of public funds, with the Treasury bench unwilling to discuss the Adani issue and the situation in Manipur, while the opposition refuses to abandon their demands.
