A meeting has been scheduled at the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah
New Delhi: This night, the uncertainty surrounding the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra is expected to come to a conclusion. A meeting has been scheduled at the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah, which will include BJP President JP Nadda. Leaders from the Mahayuti alliance have already traveled to Delhi for this crucial gathering aimed at finalizing the candidate for the Chief Minister position in Maharashtra.
Ajit Pawar, the leader of the NCP, has already arrived in Delhi, along with BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, as well as the caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The suspense has lingered for several days following the Mahayuti alliance’s significant electoral victory. It is anticipated that the name of the new Chief Minister will be announced tonight, thereby putting an end to speculation and narratives surrounding the Chief Minister’s role in Maharashtra. The meeting is expected to commence later in the evening at Amit Shah’s official residence.
The start of the meeting may be delayed as Home Minister Amit Shah is currently attending a meeting in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. On Wednesday, caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde held a press conference where he expressed his disinterest in serving a second term as Chief Minister, thereby clearing the way for Devendra Fadnavis. “I will not be an obstacle in Mahayuti,” stated Eknath Shinde.
In addition to the ongoing speculation regarding the next Chief Minister, attention is also shifting towards the distribution of key cabinet portfolios. Sources within the BJP have indicated that the ruling Mahayuti alliance is considering a formula of 21-12-10 for the formation of the Maharashtra cabinet. The Mahayuti alliance achieved a total of 230 seats out of 288 in the recent elections, with the BJP emerging as the largest party, securing 132 seats, followed by the Shiv Sena with 57 and the NCP with 41.
There is considerable pressure on the central BJP leadership from Maharashtra BJP MLAs to ensure that the Chief Minister position is filled by a BJP member, given the party’s substantial seat count. Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has already stated his intention to comply with the Prime Minister’s decision regarding the Chief Ministerial appointment.
